Should optional fields show on new registration?

Postby shoestringwebs » Sun Jul 01, 2007 6:09 pm

I have installed Anti-spam ACP 2.0.8 on two boards, both version 2.0.22 and set up essentially the same. Anti-spam ACP is configured the same on both as well.

On one, the Profile Information fields (ICQ, Web site, etc.) do not show on a new registration. On the other, the additional fields do appear. On both, the functionality appears to be correct-- registrations are rejected if anything is submitted for the additional fields.

I assume that the fields are not supposed to appear, correct? If this is the case, then what is most likely the cause for the fields appearing on the one installation?

They would be appearing on the second install because you didn't do the modifications to the profile_add_body.tpl for the template your using on that site.

I installed both with EasyMod. On the first install (the one showing the optional fields), I did have a small error... it couldn't find a particular section of code (don't remember what file) but it was a comment ( <!-- begin something.... --> ) so I ignored it.

Could that have been the problem? If so, I will manually modify the profile_add_body.tpl file.

Yes, that was the problem.

Those are not comments, they are used by the template system.

Now that I look, I see that none of the modifications after the first one were made, due to how the tables are drawn in this particular theme. I will be editing this one myself.

I'm having this trouble, too. I manually edited the profile_add_body.tpl file in my only theme (RedSilver) and it all looks ok, but after I disable ICQ, AIM, MSN and Yahoo in the admin panel, they still appear in a new registration page.
I've received two spam notifications in the two hours since it went live, both of which entered info in these fields.
I also set the website field to be dependent on one post, but it still shows up, and the spam bots tried to use it.
I can send the whole file if nec.
Thanks in advance!

Attach the file with a reply and I can take a brief look at it.

It appears you have not done all of the edits required to that file. None of the template switches were put in.
