Introducing:
phpBB-Akismet!
Possibly the best way in the world to protect you from web spam, now fully integrated with phpBB3.
Akismet (for phpBB3) filters out your comment spam for you, so you can focus on more important things.
The way this works (on phpBB3):- For spam that Akismet catches:
- Someone tries to post on your board
- Akismet marks the message as spam
- Post requires approval by a moderator before continuing
- For ham (false positives) that Akismet catches:
- Someone tries to post on your board
- Akismet marks the message as spam
- Post requires approval by a moderator before continuing
- Moderator approves the message and the post is submitted to Akismet as ham (a false positive)
- For spam that Akismet misses:
- Someone tries to post on your board
- Post shows up in viewtopic
- Moderator notices and clicks the "Remove Spam" link on the post
- Post is submitted to Akismet as spam and deleted from the board
Features:- Administrative Control Panel:
- Akismet Integration Settings
- Moderator Control Panel:
- Moderation queue
- If a post was marked as spam by Akismet, upon approving the message, it will be submitted to Akismet as not spam (ham)
- On the view topic page:
- "Remove Spam" link
- Reports the post to Akismet and removes it from the board

Anti-Spam ACP has been updated to 1.0.5
This update is primarily to introduce Akismet integration to help combat spam posting.
You can find the update here:
Anti-Spam ACP.
Update: From personal experience on this board using the spam word filter and Akismet integration, I have to say this works wonderfully and has stopped almost every single instance of a spam post in the last two weeks since I've implemented it on the forum here. Akismet has stopped 362 posts that were not stopped by the common spam word list I have setup, and a total of almost 1,400 spam posts were blocked in the last 14 days (just try deleting all of that on your own phpBB3 board).

Anti-Spam ACP has been updated to 1.0.4. This update contains some significant updates to the mod.
- Copied a number of functions (Spam and Flag Logs, Flagged User List, IP Search) into the MCP (they still exist in the ACP as they were) so that moderators may user the functions without needing administrative permissions (see next changes)
- Change a_asacp_ban permission to m_asacp_ban (allow moderators to one click ban)
- Change a_asacp_user_flag permission to m_asacp_user_flag (allow moderators to flag users and view the flag list)
- Change a_asacp_ip_search permission to m_asacp_ip_search (allow moderators to use the IP Search functionality)
- Change a_asacp_spam_log permission to m_asacp_spam_log (allow moderators to view the spam log)
- Enable the Keyword Search in the Spam and Flag Logs
- Do not show the One Click Ban link in a user's profile if they are already banned
- Display the list of actions to be taken when using the One Click Ban
- Require the submission of evidence when submitting to Stop Forum Spam from One Click Ban
- Give the option to submit a ban reason and ban reason shown to the user when using the One Click Ban (#112)
- Remove the flag on a user's account if their username is banned through the One Click Ban (#165)
- Option to deactivate the user when using the One Click Ban (#165)
- Fix spam words action on user profiles (#181)
With all of these significant updates, it's possible that some issues slipped through, so please report any issues to the
tracker.
No code changes are necessary to update, just upload the new files. There were some big changes to permissions, so please check the permission settings (applied to global moderator roles) to verify they are what you want.
